Thursday 24 August, 2023 (Week 6)
A note from Mrs Muir
Dear Parents,
As you would be aware, Mr Pardini is officially on Long Service Leave for the remainder of Term 3 and during this time I am in the role of Acting Principal. It's been another great week at St Brigid's, with so much going on and it's hard to believe it will be Friday tomorrow!
Yesterday our Year 4, 5 & 6 students delivered their TREE Talks, the students presented to their own class group, the presentation of talks will conclude tomorrow for any students who didn't present yesterday. The talks are on a topic of their own choice and each student is assessed following a set judging criteria. The next stage will see six students from each year group proceed to the St Brigid's TREE Talks, being held next week, where they will present in front of all the Year 4-6 students as a group. From this, two students from each year group will attend the Regional TREE Talk finals. This will be hosted by St Mary's Boyup Brook and we will also be joined by St Joseph's Pemberton and Kearnan College Manjimup. Thank you to all the students for the time and effort you have put into your talks and for overcoming your nerves to speak in front of your peers and teachers, well done.
Today, 19 of our Year 6 students have attended a transition day to Kearnan College. I have absolutely no doubt they will have a fantastic time as a day in the life of a high school student!
This afternoon, we are looking forward to welcoming Parents to St Brigid's Open Afternoon and Art Exhibition. Our class teachers have prepared the classrooms to showcase your child's work, we hope you are able to take the time to view your child's class, they will be open from 3.30-5.30pm. We will also have the school hall open from 3.00pm - 5.30pm for you to view the display of wonderful art. Our amazing Art Teacher, Mrs Willis has prepared an exhibit of all children's art work in a display that is nothing short of incredible. Don't forget to put your bid in for the combined calss pieces before 5.30pm.
Finally, Bookweek Parade! The culmination of Bookweek is our dress up day tomorrow! Parents, we know you either love or loath getting a costume organised for your child, however we really do look forward to seeing all the creative ideas and characters that will walk into school tomorrow morning! It's a fun way to celebrate and encourage the love of reading! We will kick off the fun at 8.45am on the basketball court, as always, our staff will also be in the spirit of bookweek. Don't forget your book too!
Thank you for a fantastic week and I wish everyone a great weekend!

Medications
We would like to communicate important information regarding the administration of medication to students at school. These protocols are for the safety of all children and staff.
One off medication: children may present to the office with a headache or similar and require pain relief or be suffering from hay fever and require an antihistamine. For situations such as these, the school will contact the parent or guardian for verbal permission to administer the required medication, which the school keeps a supply, no medication to be kept in school bags. The school will maintain a record each time medication is administered to a child.
Short term prescription medication: children experiencing medical conditions for which they may be taking a course of antibiotics this medication can be administered at school. The requirements surrounding this include:
- Parent to complete a medication form (obtained from the front office).
- Medication to be kept in the front office, no medication to be kept in school bags, or classrooms.
- The school keeps a log of every time medication is administered.
Ongoing prescription medication: for children who take prescription medication daily, we have the following practices in place:
- A Doctors certificate of diagnosis and dosage is required to be kept on file at the front office. If any change occurs in dosage, this certificate needs to be updated.
- The medication needs to come to school in the form of dosage. i.e.- already cut in quarters if it is quarter of a tablet in a "day of the week" dispenser.
- Medication is kept in a locked cabinet in the school office, no medication to be kept in school bags, or classrooms.
- Two adults present when a child is administered medication.
- A record is kept every time medication is administered.
Service to the Community
As part of “Service to the Community”, our Year 5 & 6 students and teachers have continued cooking for our Foodbank. For those who may not be aware, Foodbank is to support those within the Parish and school community who may be in need for a variety of reasons such as poor health, stressful or unexpected circumstances.
Our freezers are now looking full of meals including chicken noodle soup, cauliflower cheese, fried rice, vegetarian quiche, butter chicken, carbonara and pizza.
If you know someone in our school community who may benefit from meals please contact the school office, we will maintain discretion in all situations.
Recently we have been doing some gardening in the Parish Grounds to service the area, and keep the Church grounds looking tidy. Keep up the great work Year 5/6's.
Uniform Labelling
A reminder to all parents to clearly label your child's uniform items. Teachers frequently find stray jumpers or jackets in the school and when they attempt to return these to children they are finding there is either no name or the item has been purchased second hand with the previous owners name still showing on the label. Thank you for your assistance.
