Thursday 14 September, 2023 (Week 9)
A note from Mrs Muir
Dear Parents,
Only 1 week left of Term 3 - how can this be true? The past 4 weeks in the role of Acting Principal have really flown.
MJR Award
Last week we finished off Wellness Week with our MJR Assembly and we were so excited to have Daisy Glancy from our Year 5 class as the recipient of the MJR Award. Congratulations Daisy on receiving this award, we are so lucky to have you in our school. Her certificate read:
"You have a positive attitude and an awesome sense of humour which your friends have recognised. Daisy, you are always a kind and caring person to everyone in our school, looking out for your friends and all your little buddies too. We love how you are such an encouraging, enthusiastic, and positive person. For the awesome person you are, we say "THANK YOU!"
Creative Crew
Congratulations to our eight students who participated in the South West region "Creative Edge Challenge" last Saturday. Our students chose the Science and Engineering category, and they were required to work as a team to explore possibilities and experiment with a range of ideas as they work towards their best possible solution. Your performance was nothing short of brilliant, you overcame your nerves, worked together as a team and ticked off everything required in the brief with excellence. In addition, the students were given an “Impromptu Creativity Challenge” on the day. As the adjudicator explained at the end of the day, yes there is only one winner in this competition, however nobody should leave feeling as though they had lost. I couldn't have been prouder of you all. Well done Flynn (Y4), Louis (Y5), Sophee (Y5), Matilda (Y6), Flynn (Y6), Sam (Y6) and Boston (Y6). Also, a special mention to Timon in Year 6 who made a significant contribution to working on our script of the dramatisation. Lastly, well done to St Brigid's Collie who took out first place!
Regional TREE Talks
Today, six of our students from St Brigid's participated in the Regional TREE Talk finals at St Mary's Boyup Brook. They competed against St Mary's, Kearnan College and St Josephs Pemberton. The calibre of speeches and variety of topics was very impressive. I would not have wished to be one of the judges today, a tough job for them! Well done to our students: Elleanor Caldwell (Y4), Ted Mentlein (Y4), Daisy Glancy (Y5), Ryda Perkins-Bullock (Y5), Ruby Dinnis (Y6) and Sam Reape (Y6). Congratulations to Sam who achieved first place in the Y6 TREE Talks.
Pupil Free Day
A reminder tomorrow, Friday 15 September is a Pupil Free Day!
Have a great weekend everyone!

Operation Christmas Child
Operation Christmas Child is an opportunity to gift presents to children in need who live around the world. Please place your donation in the box at school and we will use these items to pack the shoeboxes with our students in October Term 4. For more information surrounding this wonderful initiative, please read the flyers below and visit their website: operationchristmaschild.org.au or talk with our coordinator, Mrs Turner.
Thank you for your support.
Science Fun in Year 1
In Science, our Year 1 class have been looking at materials throughout this term. We've investigated how they can change and looked at their purpose. Last week we read "You and Me - Our Place" and looked at how Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders used natural materials to make utensils. This week we went for a walk to source materials and made our own utensils. We have some plates, fishing rods, forks and hammers to name a few. Everyone was really responsible and the class came up with some creative ideas. Well done Year 1.
Watercolours of Bridgetown Landmarks
We currently have 'Watercolours of Bridgetown Landmarks' on display in our school office. These beautiful artworks were produced by our Year 5 students under the guidance of Mrs Willis. The display is nothing short of impressive and we have been in contact with the Shire of Bridgetown to invite them to view the work. Shire President Jenny Mountford cannot wait to come and look at the work. Watch this space ... the Shire may even wish to obtain this art to display or use for tourism promotional material!
