Friday 17 May, 2024 (Week 5)
A note from Mr Pardini
Dear Families,
As we approach the halfway mark of this term, we also approach the winter months. The last couple of weeks have been a reminder of the increase of 'winter illness' that comes with the change of season; we are witnessing an increase in asthma, colds and coughs. As you would be aware, earlier this week, we had confirmation of whooping cough in our school and the wider community.
I would like to thank parents for their vigilance in keeping their children away from school and seeking medical advice if their child has presented with any symptoms. We appreciate that waiting for results causes additional disruption to families and school, however it is important that we maintain the health and safety for everyone, so thank you for keeping this as a priority. We encourage parents to continue to refer to the Health Department Guidelines & Fact Sheet for information and clarification.
Cross Country - In light of the high rate of illness and absentees amongst our students, we have made the decision to re-schedule our Cross Country event from today until Tuesday 28 May (Week 7). Thank you for your understanding with this, we feel it is the best decision in these circumstances. We hope all our students may have the best opportunity to 'get well' before the revised date.
TREE Meeting - Yesterday we hosted a TREE meeting with our neighbouring Catholic Schools. TREE stands for "Teaching, Research, Excellence in Education" and is all about teachers from the region sharing best practice and moderating work while receiving some professional development each term with Catholic Education Office consultants. This year the focus off all TREE meetings is in the Maths learning area.
First Holy Communion - Please join us for the sacrament of First Holy Communion on Sunday 9 June at 9.00am. We keep in our prayers Stella, Albie, Caelan, Finn and Oliver who will be receiving Holy Communion for the first time. Following Mass there will be a light morning tea in the hall. We would love you to join us and bring a plate of food to share.
School reports - A reminder to all families (PP-Year 6), reports are issued for every child via SEQTA Engage at the end of this term. For new families to our school or for any issues with this app, please contact the reception for assistance. Reports will be pushed out via the SEQTA Engage app in the final week of school (week 11).
Pupil Free Day - A reminder to all families, the WA Day Public holiday will be an extra long one for St Brigid's families as we have a pupil free day on Friday 31 May.
Have a safe and enjoyable weekend.

P&F News
Dear St Brigid's Families,
Our P&F have had a terrific start to the term with three great fundraisers.
The whole school got involved with the colour fun run with this event raising just over $9,000! It was great to see the kids having a so much fun and thank you to all the parents who were able to come along on the day too.
We’ve also had two back-to-back fundraising raffles - our Mother’s Day Raffle and our Wood Raffle. The Mother’s Day raffle was drawn at the breakfast last Friday with three amazing prizes being won by some well deserving mums. This raffle made us $1,500 and a big thanks to the Kindy parents who organised the raffle.
The very next day we had an amazing wood raffle and cake stall. We set up at the community kiosk in town early Saturday morning and people just kept coming and purchasing tickets as they could see the massive load of wood to be won, so thank you to the Year 2 Parents for organising this raffle - collecting wood, baking cakes and being there on the morning - we raised over a $1,000 in the space of 6 hours!
All the money raised will be spent on upgrading the Kindy and Pre-Primary play area;
- Re-mulching all the garden beds with soft play mulch.
- Extending the existing limestone wall to keep sand out of the watercourse.
- Replacing the hand water pump and installing an above ground watercourse.
- Construct a bench seating area under the peppermint tree to cover the area where the grass doesn't grow and provide a shaded area for the kids to play and eat under.
Next term we have the Father’s Day raffle and the school disco to look forward to – stay tuned for more info!
Thank you to our hard-working committee and all our families for their support.

Parking and Kiss n Drop
Some families may not be aware the off-street parking near the Mitre 10 car park is to be kept clear, Mitre 10 require access to the building with the roller door for deliveries of goods to and from their store. During school drop off and pick up times please utilise the allocated parking bays along with the kiss n drop area as a means of keeping the efficient flow of vehicles for drop off & pick up.
