Thursday 22 August, 2024 (Week 6)
A note from Mr Pardini!
Dear Families,
Can I start by saying a big thank you to Mrs Louise Barber who assumed the role of Acting Principal in my absence over the past three weeks. It is only with the efforts of Mrs Barber and the collective staff input that leave like this can happen. I felt very comfortable leaving, knowing the school was in 'great hands'. It is wonderful to be back, although I am in shock at the weather. When my wife and I departed Rome we were wearing shorts and t-shirts enveloped by 36 degree heat! I have really enjoyed this week re-connecting with everyone and I am really excited about all the events we have coming up....something tells me the next 4 weeks is going to be very busy!!!
Book Week – Thank you everyone for embracing the world of books at Tuesday's dress up day. It was a day of colour and excitement and thank goodness we were able to gather outside on the court for the parade. At least all parents can now rest easy knowing there are still 360 sleeps until Bookweek 2025!!!! Well done everyone!
UR Strong - Friendology 'zoom' session- Thank you to the handful of families and staff who signed up and attended the online session on Tuesday night. It was lead by the creator of UR Strong, Dana. She gave us our time all the way from Canada (you have to love technology) and broke down the program in easy steps with children present. If you missed this session, we have sent out the special link and password earlier today via SZapp to watch the live recording (please check your feed on SZapp). If you have any questions about this or cannot access the link, please contact the front office.
Science Week - Last week, four of our Year Six students attended an inaugural Science Competition at East Manjimup Primary School. A huge congratulations to Charlotte, Austin, Louis and Hudson who took out second place (1/2 point difference) out of 12 teams - what a fantastic achievement, well done. Thank you to Mrs Kerr and Mrs Elam for attending the competition and supporting the students.
Year 3 Assembly - Please join us in the hall at 8.45am for the Year Three Assembly this Friday 23 August.
Father's Day Brekkie - It's on again! You would have seen the flyer advertising this event - we love calling all Father figures to an early morning brekkie. Please come along on Friday 30 August for a huge cook-up. There will be a coffee van available to purchase a hot drink, or as we have done in the past, you can simply make yourself a hot cuppa. The P&F are very excited to be selling tickets to an awesome raffle which will be drawn at this event. See you at the brekkie!
TREE Talks - Currently, our Year 4, 5 & 6 students are putting the final touches to their public speaking 'TREE Talks'. The students will present their talks in front of their own class. The next stage will see selected students from each year group proceed to the St Brigid's 'semi-final', being held next week on Tuesday 27 August from 11.00am in our library. If your child makes the semi-final, you are more than welcome to attend. Mrs Fiona Willis and myself will be the judges. The tough task we have in front of us is to select two students from each year group to attend the Regional 'Grand' final, hosted this year at St Joseph's Pemberton on Thursday 12 September. Good luck to all students!
Fire Evacuation Drill - Next Tuesday 27 August, we will be conducting a fire evacuation drill. I am writing this simply for your information - and just in case our little ones arrive home saying there was a fire at school!
Open Night / Art Exhibition - Plans are well and truly underway for this annual event. Please make sure you clear the afternoon of Tuesday 10 September in your diaries so you can attend. The classes will be prepared to showcase your child's work from 3.30-5.30pm. We will also have the school hall open from 3.00pm - 5.30pm for you to view the display of wonderful art.
Where is Mrs Elam? I am pleased to say Mrs Kelly Elam will be enjoying the remainder of the term with her family on a long service leave holiday of a lifetime. We wish Mrs Elam every blessing and safe travels for a well-earned break and we look forward to seeing her again for the start of Term 4.
Have a wonderful weekend ahead.
